What is The First Baptist Church of Pitman?

The First Baptist Church of Pitman is a community of nurturing followers of Jesus Christ. You find us in many places. We are in the schools, the banks, the local businesses. You can find us on a soccer field, in the kitchen or in the hospital. And on Sunday mornings, you can find us at 30 North Broadway in Pitman, worshipping the Lord who has given us life to share. Everywhere we are, we are seeking to live out our mission. You can find our mission statement in the column to the right. Notice that it is active and when we live it, people's lives are transformed. God's grace (read unconditional love) pours into us. So if you are looking for a church that is more than a building, but a body of people who are loving God and loving God's world, then First Baptist Church of Pitman might be just the church you are looking for.

This Week at First Baptist

Acts 4:1-22; Sermon: When Kingdoms Collide

Theme: When the Kingdom of God encounters the kingdoms of this world there will be an inevitable collision. When the irresistible force of the Gospel meets the immovable object of human self interest (wrongly conceived) - something’s got to give. This results in temporary persecution and suffering for believers – but ultimate victory.

A MOMENT FOR MEDITATION

MANGIA

…the cheerful heart has a continual feast
Proverbs 15:15 TNIV

In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.
John 16:33 TNIV

“Mangia” in Italian means “eat.” In my family it was said as the food was placed on the table – and it has always been like music to my ears - no surprise to those who know me.

But even the blessing of good food can be robbed of enjoyment when strife, worries and anxieties fill our hearts. Better a dry crust with peace and quiet than a house full of feasting with strife. (Prov. 17:1) It’s not the content of the meal but the disposition of the heart that counts.

Trouble, in all its varieties, is inevitable in life. We can make trouble rob us of the “feast” that God has for us in life, or we can turn it over to the Lord who has overcome the world. In the words of a currently popular song, “PRAY, TAKE THE WORLD OFF YOUR SHOULDERS AND PRAY.”

So let us take heart, Jesus reigns. Let our hearts rejoice. Mangia.
